Ephedra is a common and nondescript plant, which is usually considered to be a useless weed. In India, Nepal and other places on the Indian subcontinent it is also called Soma or Somalata as this plant is used as one of the main ingredients in the preparation of a plant-based divine aphrodisiac and life-extending concoction, which is known to provoke strong feelings of euphoria, lust and relaxation.  Its magic recipe had been a well-protected secret for millennia, and the plant is still treated with much respect and reverence by the Himalayas shamans and high lamas for its stimulatory properties.
